DESCRIPTION:Howdy teens! We are planning to take an hour long horseback ride through the trails of Platte River State Park followed by a lesson on how to rope and lasso cattle. \nParticipants will have to provide their own transportation to Platte Ricer State Park. Participants or parents of minor participants must also sign a waiver from Platte River State Park. Each teen will be riding on their own horse. Outlook’s adaptive sports specialist will spaced out on horseback between teen riders to give verbal cues should a horse need directional correction. If you are scared\, nervous or uncomfortable with horses\, this event may not be right for you.

Although parts of the official Riverfront Trail are closed due to flooding and construction\, we will start in the heart of the downtown area at Omaha’s Kiewit’s Luminarium parking lot\, bike through a bit of the park and head southbound past Lauritzen Gardens\, the zoo\, and turn around at Mt. Vernon Park in South Omaha. A total of 10 miles of trail riding! As always\, we can accommodate brand new bikers or seasoned bikers. Yes\, we will be using real firearms with ammunition\, starting with 22-caliber rifles and progressing to more unique firearm options. To add to the summer fun\, this year\, we will be shooting at watermelons and steel targets\, which will give an adaptive touch\, providing a motivating and affirming sound with each hit. We aim to please with our Outlook adventures. \nJoin us in the middle of a cornfield for lunch\, a lesson\, and the opportunity to exercise your right to bear arms. The destination is Omaha’s Cunningham Lake for a late afternoon of water sports\, including sailing\, paddleboarding\, and kayaking\, led by Camp Outpost Inc. You will rotate through the different sessions in small groups. The sailing portion will be adapted with tactile touches so you can differentiate which ropes to pull. We will be loading up into little sailboats\, raising the sails\, and propelling through the water by catching the wind. Then dip those oars and paddles in the water while you cruise in a kayak and stand\, sit\, or kneel on a paddleboard. Sighted guides will join us to help direct traffic on the water or tandem with our younger participants. This event is for both teens and adults. DESCRIPTION:Our apologies. This event has been cancelled due to weather. Mt. Crescent is closed because the unseasonably warm temps keep melting the snow. This annual event will be back next year. \nWe’ll be heading back to Mt. Crescent for our annual day of downhill snow skiing. You will have option to try snowboarding this year. This is a day on the slopes with other visually impaired folks and your own personal sighted ski guide. A ski lesson\, ski equipment rental\, lunch and a lift pass included.  \n****Please make sure you are absolutely going to attend if you sign up for this and other events. This event requires a one-on-one volunteer ski guide for each skier with vision loss. Volunteer ski guides are not easy to find. Each will be reserving the day for us and arranging travel to get to Mt. Crescent. If they show up and don’t have someone to ski with due to “no show” or last-minute cancellations it is a waste of their time and will probably have a negative impact on their future availability to volunteer. We encourage you to sign up\, but also to show up and be respectful of the work that goes into planning these events.**** \nTravel to Mt. Crescent will be provided for adults with vision loss that do not have other transportation to Mt. crescent since it is out of public transportation routes. This is a great way to find out if you have what it takes to try snowboarding at Mt. Crescent next winter. \nWe know it’s a bummer not to be able to hit the slopes this year\, so we added in a martini mixing class to help you drown your sorrows. The folks from Spirit World will be leading a mixing class. You will work in teams of two shaking up 3 different kinds of magnificent martinis. And yes\, of course the mixing of martinis will be followed by the drinking of martinis! Plus a charcuterie board hand crafted by our very own Nina Rongisch.
